Week of October 17, 2011

Course 1
Monday- We are continuing our discussion on Writing Linear Equations.  Students had homework over the weekend to write the equations by hand to verify what we found in our activity on Thursday.

Tuesday- Because of the results of a pop quiz given, we spent today working on operations with fractions.  Students created a flipbook that contains the rules for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions, as well as several practice problems.

Wednesday- Students worked on a graphic organizer to synthesize all of the different ways to write a linear equation.

Unit 3-Graphic Organizer (Blank)

Thursday- We worked together on Step 6 of the project where the students needed to create an equation and graph based off their yearly salary and budget.

Homework: Work on project...remember it's due NEXT MONDAY (10/24/11)!!!!!

Course 3
Monday- We started our unit on Inequalities and Absolute Value.  Students were given a graphic organizer (see handout below) and we worked on practice problems on individual white boards.

Tuesday- Students were given a quiz on solving inequalities, and we worked through the solutions as a class.  We also discussed solving absolute value inequalities...students were given a graphic organizer for this too (see handout below).

Solving Inequalities GO

Solving Absolute Value Inequalities (Graphic Organizer)

Wednesday- Students took a quiz on absolute value inequalities.

Thursday- Students analyzed their work on their quiz question, and then worked on additional practice problems.

Homework: Rework examples in notes for additional practice.

Week of October 10, 2011

Course 1
Monday- Today was our last day of the Basic Skills Challenge.  I will be working individually with students who were not able to complete up to at least Level 10.

Tuesday- We had a discussion about the four types of slope (students received a handout on this).  Students worked in pairs to complete Partner Problems on finding the slope when given two points or a graph.

Wednesday- Students worked on an activity where they had to match graphs, points, and slopes.

Thursday- We discussed the answers to yesterday's activity and each student worked through finding the slope using the individual whiteboards.  As an extension to this activity, students identified the y-intercept from the given graph and were able to write an equation for the line.

Homework: Work on project. Make sure Steps 1-5 are complete.  We will work on the equations and graphs in class together on Thursday 10/13/11.

Finish writing the equations from Thursday's activity and be ready to present solutions on Monday 10/17/11.

Course 3
Monday- Students filled out an Algebra 2 Pre-Assessment card based on the 10 topics that we will discuss over the next 9 weeks. Students worked in stations to practice problems from each topic.
**Geometry Final corrections are due by the end of the day on Tuesday 10/11/11.  They must be done on a separate sheet of paper, along with an explanation of what you did wrong and what exactly was changed.  You may receive up to 10 percentage points added to your original score.

Tuesday- Students finished practice problems from stations.  Individual student conferences were held to discuss test corrections.

Wednesday- PSAT

Thursday- Students worked in expert groups for each goal from the Algebra 2 Pre-Assessment.  They discussed their answers to the stations and made posters to present solutions to the class as a mini-lesson.  We will begin Inequalities and Absolute Value on Monday 10/17/11.

Week of October 3, 2011

Course 1
Monday- Basic Skills Challenge

Tuesday- Basic Skills Challenge...everyone is making great progress! Everyone should be finished with all 12 levels by the end of this week.  We will move on to Linear Functions next week.

Wednesday- Freshman students had an assembly today. The regular schedule will resume tomorrow.

Thursday- Basic Skills Challenge

Friday- Students worked on project in class.

Homework: Work on project.  Steps 1-5 should be complete by Friday 10/7/11.  Please bring in all resources/materials that you have gathered so far.

Course 3
Monday- We started Mini-Lesson Stations today.  Students will be learning the basic concepts of circles, properties of quadrilaterals, as well as surface area and volume.  There are 3 stations that the students will be working through, and they have until Wednesday 10/5/11 to complete everything.  This is the last week of our geometry unit, so we will be reviewing on Thursday 10/6/11 and the FINAL will be on Friday 10/7/11.
*Students will receive their portfolios on Thursday and will have until Monday 10/10/11 to resubmit.

Tuesday- Mini-Lesson Stations

Wednesday- Last day for Mini-Lesson Stations.  The Geometry Unit Study Guide was handed out today.  It is strongly encouraged that students complete the study guide prior to our review session tomorrow.
**I am offering an opportunity to boost your grade!  For those students who complete the study guide and turn it in before the test on Friday, I will count the study guide as a quiz grade and drop your lowest score.  Also, remember that your Final will replace your Unit 1 Test grade.

Thursday- Students had time to work on the study guide in class and then we went through the problems together as a class.

Friday- GEOMETRY FINAL
**Remember to resubmit your portfolio by MONDAY (10/10/11)!!!

Homework: Work on practice problems from your station for the day.  Everything is due by Wednesday 10/5/11.
