Week of October 8, 2012

This week we are transitioning into the second half of the semester and beginning Algebra 2 topics.  The students have been working on pre-assessment stations to determine their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to their algebraic knowledge. Those students who have completed all of the stations will be able to get a jump-start on the actual units on Friday.

For each unit, all students must complete the following:
  1. Guided Notes/Graphic Organizer (Classwork grade)
  2. Practice Problems/Performance Tasks (Homework grade)
  3. Project/Lab (Projects & Labs will be compiled into a portfolio and students will receive a final project grade at the end of the semester)
  4. Quiz (this may be taken as many times as necessary to pass and/or achieve the desired grade)

Details and copies of handouts will be posted each week.  Students will be able to work at their own pace to complete each component of the unit, but there will be a target deadline for them to attempt the quiz.  For those parents who say that their child always says they have no homework...THEY WILL ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING TO WORK ON!  The rest of the semester will be very rigid because every student is accountable for learning the outlined objectives of this course.  Whether or not their is a state-administered assessment, each student will be required to take a final at the end of this course.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by either submitting a comment on this blog or through email (michellemccullough@wcps.org).

I hope everyone is motivated to do better this grading period as we are all turning over a new leaf!
