Hi Davis! About your first comment...you set it up correctly, but remember if you have a negative number inside your square root, it means that there are no real solutions (because we can't take the square root of a negative number). About your second comment...if "a" does not have an exponent of 2, then it is not really "a". You will have to rearrange the terms so that it goes in order (ax^2+bx+c=0), but which problem are you referring to?
Hi Ms.McCullough. When using using the quadratic formula, are a, b, and c determined the same way when using a binomial instead of a trinomial? The problem I am referring to s number 28 of the homework. Thank you, Benjamin Raposa, 4th hour.
Davis: Yes, solve for x. And yes, it will be on the quiz.
Ben: Try the exit ticket one more time because your answers should be whole numbers. And for # 28, you will need to make sure that the equation is equal to zero first, so bring the 8 over to the other side and you can continue with the Quadratic Formula steps. I hope this helps...
Hi Ms.McCullough, after 8 is moved to the other side, is the equation 5x-8x=0? Even if that is correct, I am not sure how to figure out the values of a, b, and c. Thank you, Benjamin Raposa 4th hour.
Hi Ms.McCullough. I have tried squaring the four and x squared, and in the part of the quadratic formula 4ac I have tried using both a positive and a negative four, and used two and four as "c", yet I still cannot get two whole positive answers. Also, I would like to come to tutoring during my lunch period tomorrow, will I be able to eat my lunch during tutoring? Thank you, Benjamin Raposa, 4th hour.
Hi Ben, your "c" value should be -12 (if you subtract 8 from -4, it equals -12). Try that and see if you get whole numbers. And yes you can bring your lunch to tutoring.
Hi Ms.McCullough. Now I am getting one negative answer.For the Quadratic formula, I am using -1√-4(1)(12)48+1=49 2(2)=2 + 1-√49/7 1+7/2 1-7/2 x=4 x=-3 Thank you, Benjamin Raposa 4th hour
i did number 25 on our homework but i do not think i got it right. can you tell me were i went wrong?
ReplyDelete#25- x^2+4x+5=0
█(@@-4±√(4^2-4(1)(5)))/(2(1))
(-4±√(-4))/2
(-4±√(-2))/
im not sure if you can understand this or not. sorry
what do i do if the "a" in the problem does not have and exponet?

ReplyDeleteI was waiting on someone to catch that....it's a trick question. It's not quadratic, so you can just solve for x and you will only have one answer.
ReplyDeleteoh thanks Ms. McCullough thats nice of you. so all i have to do is solve for x?
ReplyDeleteHi Ms.McCullough, thank you for Friday. My exit ticket answer is x=2.4, x=3.4. Thank you, Benjamin Raposa, 4th hour.
ReplyDeleteOh and one more thing(i think) is the quadratic formula going to be on the verbal quiz?

so to start off the exit ticket is the equation:
ReplyDelete1x^2-1x-12=0?
yes!
ReplyDeletebut now im really lost because is the discriminat now a negative so there is no solution?
ReplyDeletewatch your negatives inside...it should be positive

ReplyDeletesorry about all the post but i am just so confused! does A=1 B=-1 and C=-12?
ReplyDeleteare the answers x=4 and x=-3?
ReplyDeleteDavis: Yes, that's the answer! Great job!
ReplyDeleteBen: It should be 5x^2-x-8=0, then identify a, b, and c.
you should NOT make me do these on the verbal quiz! they are so confusing!
ReplyDeleteJust keep practicing!!! You got the other one right! You can do it :)
ReplyDeleteplease dont you should just give me one to factor!

x=4 x=-3
Thank you, Benjamin Raposa 4th hour
That's correct! Great job :)
ReplyDeletems.McCullough if i have the equation x^2-7+6=0 is the answers going to be 1 and 6?
ReplyDeleteIf you mean x^2-7x+6=0, that is the correct answer.
